"In New York from 1850 J. B. Woodbury put forth an ‘American Monthly Musical Review,’ which in 1852 under Mason’s more powerful lead because the ‘Musical Review’ and the ‘New York Musical Review,’ Woodbury turning to the ‘Music Pioneer,’ which he managed in 1855-68. These latter were connected with the promotion of ‘psalmody’ and its sequels."
